However sweet all babies are, parents may have different approaches towards the subject. Thanks to huge scientific and medical developments, we can now answer the call to gender determination in Iran.
Not surprisingly, the nature versus nurture debate has been going on for a long time, even when it comes to gender determination in Iran. In the past, people assumed that an embryo’s sex was highly dependent on anything but natural and genetic causes. We know nowadays that for an egg to go ahead, many genetic factors are involved.
Discovering or deciding a baby’s gender beforehand is complicated. To open up this knit, we are firstly going to look over the key factors that determine a baby’s gender.
The Role of Chromosomes in Gender
Growing from an embryo to a baby, we all have a long journey. Although numerous factors can affect gender, some of these factors stand out, among which is the sex chromosome. As you know, a chromosome is a type of DNA molecule that determines many of our specifications and distinctions as a species. Consequently, it is critical to learn about chromosomes if we are to learn about gender determination in Iran. We truly understand its importance when we realize that it defines the alphabet of our reproduction through X and Y.
These two sex chromosomes together determine a baby’s gender. To make a baby, two sex chromosomes merge and this is their combination that controls the baby’s gender. The mother lends the chromosome X and this is the X or Y chromosome given by the father that makes up the gender. The XX combination results in a girl and the XY combination results in a boy.
The Importance of Scientific Method
As we already looked upon, people have been willing to determine the gender of their babies for so long. All the same, the modern methods that we currently use have not been around long, which means that people have utilized diverse methods instead. It can get as lunatic as determining a baby’s gender through “unscientific methods” such as urinating on salt, watching the moon, or food cravings. The problem arises when we realize that these means stand a 50% chance one way or another. As they do not follow a scientific and reliable system, one cannot interpret their success as anything but mere loco luck. Although there have been many myths about sex prediction for a long time, scientific gender determination in Iran has shown its precision.
Why Gender Determination
Several causes are behind gender determination in Iran, from genetic to cultural ones. Surgeons may take such medical measures to prevent the bearing of a baby with defective genes. Take the example of a defective X sex chromosome that can result in serious genetic disorders if the embryo is male. Knowing that the X chromosome, therefore a baby boy, can cause such a disease, parents can consider having a baby girl, without the worry of a genetically defected child.
Although gender determination in Iran is mostly about medical issues, one can find other motives behind this procedure. Cultural factors are somewhat rare in Iran, but they are among other popular causes of gender determination in some other countries, mainly in eastern and southern Asia.
No matter why parents have come up with this idea, they must learn about the process. With regard that there are no easy and simultaneously precise approaches to this issue, the options are as follows.
NIPT (Noninvasive prenatal genetic testing) is one of the most accessible gender determination options for parents. This test is completely safe for both mothers and their babies. The test does not require any of the body’s fluids but blood and offers high accuracy. Even though blood test ART is still unpleasant to some people, they are much more comfortable than other means of gender determination in Iran such as Amniocentesis and CVS.
When it comes to the advantages, not only does taking the test reveal the baby’s gender somewhat early in the pregnancy, it also shows some of the possible genetic defects. However, it runs only a general test for some of the most diffused diseases and particular or comprehensive information needs further processes. Nevertheless, this test is beneficial time-wise and you can take it as early as the 10th week of pregnancy. Getting informed at this stage of the pregnancy allows you to make the most of the time, whether you need medical care or not.
Amniocentesis is a more complicated surgical test in comparison to the NIPT. Amniotic fluid, the fluid that carefully carries and nourishes the baby, contains all the genetic data that is essential for a gender predictor test. However reliable, it is not an easy surgery to perform, as the surgeon takes the samples through a long needle. In contrast to the NIPT, Amniocentesis is a little more precise and simultaneously, more dangerous. This test can result in infection and rare cases, miscarriage. Consequently, this procedure is not usually recommended for gender determination in Iran, as newer methods such as NIPT can serve the same need with fewer risks. All the same, if you need a thorough genetic test on the embryo’s genetics, this test is the answer.
You may also have heard about the CVS (Chorionic Villus Sampling) test, which is relatively similar to Amniocentesis in many aspects. During this procedure, the doctors take a surface section of the uterus as the sample (instead of amniotic fluid). After that, the sample undergoes different tests, likewise that of Amniocentesis. Similarly, CVS contains a low risk of infection and miscarriage and is mostly used to diagnose genetic diseases. Both of these methods have their pros and cons and the right choice depends on your condition.
Ultrasound Gender Determination in Iran
Sonography or ultrasound is one of the most common medical tools that come to our aid. With high diffusion and accuracy, this is most people’s first option.
It is not earlier than the 12th week of pregnancy that the results become precise. Although the accuracy is also dependent on the sonographer’s experience, the results are immensely reliable in the 14th week. As the ultrasound waves are mechanical, they are of no harm to you or the baby, which is a great advantage in comparison to Amniocentesis.
Although reliable, these tests do not always offer the truth and you may have to retake them. Fortunately, this great spectrum of options for gender determination in Iran means that you have the opportunity to detect any problem safely and precisely.
Gender determination is a scientific approach towards the issue and one cannot contrast it with popular myths. If you have doubts about your status, do not hesitate to contact your doctor.
